Don’t rely on someone else for your happiness or to validate your self worth. Only you can be responsible for these things. If you can’t love and respect yourself - you can’t expect someone else to make it happen. Accept who you are - completely; the good and the bad - and make changes when you want to, not because you think someone else wants you to be different.

I feel like with this, you close off loving others though. If you don’t rely on someone else for happiness, you’re not risking anything, and if you want to have a meaningful relationship, there has to be some risk. The person who makes you happiest always has the potential to make you the saddest; if you deny this capability then you’ll either just be moderately content and not in love, or you’ll be LIVING A LIE.
